Another Sicknote for Spurs?     29-Jan-08 01:59 PM
Can Jonathan Woodgate shore up Tottenham's shaky defence or do they need another injury-prone player like they need a hole in the head?

OK, OK. We all know how good Woodgate can be in his prime. The problem is that his prime doesn't seem to last longer than about 20 minutes. (And in that time he's likely to get sent off and score an own goal...)

Joking aside, he is a great player but somewhat of a liability. Spurs seem to have a history of players like him who are remarkable on the pitch - but seem to spend more time on the physio's bench. Dazza Anderton for example. And of course Jamie Redknapp who appears to have been purchased purely for the purpose of keeping 'Shaggy' company on the bench!

Is Woodgate over the worst? Should Spurs have looked elsewhere for a defender? How well will he do next to Ledley King?

I have to say it was a lucky escape for Newcastle United with Woodgate going to Spurs, We already have the most expensive sicknote in premier league history at this club and we certainly don't need another one!
Fortunately we managed to offload Woodgate and sold him on while still crocked, now thats good business !!!
PS, Why have Newcastle United appointed Wise as 'Director of Football' Beats me ???

well he is injured already with a groin injury so how long will spurs have to wait to get him on the pitch
Madrid waited nearly a whole season to see him fit only to break down again
Ramos will have to work a miracle to get him fit for the carling cup final.

Remember his Dad took him to the station (even Torres flew by Easy jet),,and told him at least if he plays dead for a few games he has his last chance to play at Wembley.
Sorry but if you choose Middlebrough as your club you have got to be either lazy or daft..Plagued by injury yes he has been great in some games but who wouldnt after playing in less than 25% of all games... Sorry for the Lad and Spurs

The coming of Dennis Wise has probably got KK puzzled as well. Re Woodgate I agree totally
he has plyed no more than four full games in 2 seasons. Like Dyer a liability. Why would someone want to take the chance on Woodgate with the history he carries

given that Chimbonda is probably going to Newcastle, wouldn't a defender who is currently fit make a little more sense?

Another sick note yes , good player but no good if you play every other game , Tottenham need consistency not a player who cant play for all of the season ! Might be bit of a playboy too so London should suit her perfectly.

Where are you living...ever been in Middlesbrough not a Playboy..good pubs though..if he gets a few Theakston Beers it might help get him through the pain barrier..He is a liability without doubt. This Poor lad has by all accounts done miracles after all his lay offs..(by the way he's picked up a fortune in transfers fees)..I think everyone wishes him well perhaps this is his last club WHAT HAVE ALL THE PHYSIOS BEEN DOING..He is still crocked have they not told him and Spurs!

Forget Spurs, I only wish Everton would sign a really proven goal scorer before mid-night. Possibly they are relying upon the return of the African contingent to carry the squad through the rest of this season.
Ronaldo for Everton?

A new dawn      5-Feb-08 10:27 AM
The new Spurs, under Ramos, will be a major force.
Whilst Jol did a fantastic job he failed to buy/organise a defence which was highly predictable. In the summer of 2007 he should have done what Ramos has in the January window and buy some quality (experienced) defenders. Whilst I rate Bent why spend £16.5 million when it's as clear as night follows day that it's the defence that needs the investment. The likes of Woodgate, Gilberto, Gunter and Hutton are long overdue. The question of Woodgate's fitness would have been addressed by medical experts but it is nevertheless a worry especially given the suseptialbility of King's knee. Bale being out for the rest of the season is a blow. It does raise the issue of players who cause serious injuries being held to account.
Also the blind faith in Robinson was wreckless and not helpful to him. He was clealry out of confidence and flapped at too many high balls (Cerny at least catches the ball!!).
Turning over the Gooners, a stoic displey at Goodison and what shouldhave been 3 points against United shows a resurgent Spurs.
The Carling Cup Final will be a severe test. Chelski have the best in-depth squad in the Premier League. However with the quality of Berbatov, Keano, the much improved Jenas and Lennon Spurs have enough skill and guile to pull it off. Plus it is probably the only way to realistically secure a European spot.
