It's all well and good telling referees they can book players for diving, but have we really seen a decrease in that kind of behaviour over recent years? Enough is enough - tougher sanctions are needed if we are to stamp out diving completely - how about automatic three-match bans for players found guilty of taking a dive?

if you give a 3 match ban on players found guilty of Diving, Ronaldo and Gerrard would only play around 10 league games a season!!!! based on Play 1, ban 3, play 1, ban 3 and so on.
still if it teaches them to play the game in the way it is meant to be played rather than cheating, then I am all for it, and you never no - it might make already great players even better, as I think both Gerrard and Ronaldo are great players with just a little tarnish of them diving to gain an advantage. Reo-Coker > C. Ronaldo anytime. Reo-Coker is right you know. Did anyone se Barcelona - Sevilla this weekend? Messi was fouled but he kept running. He didn't get through and got a free kick anyway. Can someone tell Ronaldo that's possible? You CAN get a free kick without doing a back flip and see if you can possibly roll all the way into the 16 yard box.

I agree, referees must start punishing all those soap opera stars in the game. It is rather tiresome to watch this childish behaviour, which inevitably stops the flow of the game, turning it into a tedious stop-start game. Perhaps if refs would also be handing out harsher penalties for dangerous tackles, we might end up with a much more watchable, and honest, game.

As well as banning these players, we should do more to focus on naming and shaming the culprits. Perhaps a slot on MOTD or some kind of record could be kept.
We have lists of top goalscorers, most assists etc, why not start counting the dives? As well as punishing them, a little humiliation may be just the trick and it will show just what we all think of divers. Just think – people won't want to be wearing the shirts of divers, or buying the merchandise, so sponsors will put pressure on players not to dive too. Money talks…. Rating :

How about just not calling it if it was not a foul. If the official sees a woman diving and knows it was a dive, just allow play to continue. After a few goals are scored while the actresses are rolling around on the ground, their own team-mates will apply the pressure to stop the play-acting and act like men again.

Automatic sending off for blatant diving trying to get a felow profesional booked or for trying to get a penalty, yellow card for all other diving offences. Yes there are far too many, I think inherited from our foriegn players, it does need stamping out but do our ref's have the bottle?

I agree with you all that say we should get tough but as Villa fan Reo should have a little word with Ashley Young who goes down far too easily in my view, that's not to say he doesn't get fouled because its a tactic used against him now that hes becoming known.
It does need to be stamped on as does the player who injures another player by foul means who has to go off and be substituted that player who commits such a foul should also be sent off. |

George Best was slightly built, and made an easy target for brutish defenders frustrated by his skill. Nevertheless, I lost count of the times that I watched him hacked, kicked and elbowed all the way to the goal yet never went down.....usually scored too.
Diving is nothing new though. Luton Town had a forward in the sixties named Brian Lewis who performed the most theatrically choreographed dives at the slightest hint of contact, mostly in the 18yd box. Neither the FA nor FIFA have ever been tough enough which is why diving is alive and well today. Automatic three match ban, no doubt here. |

Reo-coker is spot on, we need to not only ban the sissy divers, but also fine them HEAVILY! Shameless B^%#@d. If everyone has observe closely, most of the diving actually is done by the foreigners, very unlikely to be the british players with the figthers attitude. Maybe due to this, we should first of all, reduce the number of foreigners eligible to play in the first 16, and then from here, banned them if they dive, even for international matches. YES. This should stop the play acting when wearing the national colours. Disgraceful dogs these divers...Hit them where it hurts!

A Young dives, Rooney and Gerrard are no saints either, I don't like divers but I dislike more the brutal players who can't play football and are very lucky to be there, and Reo-$%^&er is one of those, I rather go and pay to see great talents like C Ronaldo, Fabregas, Drogba, Torres and so on, than the rubbish physical ones like a lot of our British players are. It's about time the refs protect the great players, so that we can get rid of those horrible lot.

As much as I like seeing those great talents that you mentioned,I don't like it much when they demolish the team that I support. Sometimes the only way to stop these flair players playing is to get physical with them,I'm not saying go out to break their legs, but to rough them up,not give them time, hassle them. These days all teams have a player who play in a similar way to reo coker, and I'm sure they're irritated with the divers (you mentioned Drogba and Ronaldo) too.

Forget the yellow card a straight red with points deducted from the team you will soon see the end to the divers.

I'm not saying that ALL british players are rough, neither am I saying ALL foreigners are sissies. I'm just saying that of all the names of "girls" we can name from the BPL, most are foreigners. Can you imagine watching an International match, and spending half the game looking at players roll? After all that you've paid money for? Better off watching ballerina. All I'm saying is, maybe with a limit of foreigners in as first team players, we can truly see a real football match, where going in for a sliding tackle is - just that - a sliding tackle. Not synchronised lawn mowing.

It is true that some players do dive to get others sent off but there is also an element of unnecessary agression by poor quality players who can't play any other way. It is one of the reasons why England does not always excel at international level as players focus much more on getting 'stuck in' rather than play beautiful football. Mr Capello may change some aspect of that but only time will tell how much he's able to break that english mentality as it is really rooted in most sports in this country. Its all about getting stuck in for too many english players rather than skill, intelligence and technical football. I hope that Arsenal will win the Premier league as a triumph to beautiful football. Good over evil everytme...Reo coker will do well to take a leaf out of Master Fabregas' book of football.

We should give them new headbands (like what their sister's wear) and a nice new handbag for the best dives of the week! Jokes aside, I follow Rugby League mainly but I still like to watch football and its a real shame that young kids copy what the professional's do. Get on with playing the game like a man! Also stop the over the top goal celebrations, hugging and kissing, as if they have never scored a goal in their lives. A simple pat on the back would suffice!

Managers should also be held responsible - especially where the value of the player is increased due to factors of 1)diving, 2)over-diving, 3)ability to confuse the physio, 4) number of penalties and free kicks earned through diving, 5) number of players cautioned or sent off due to the 'Ronaldo' factor etc - all known to managers who condone it. Solution - a) stadium video replays, b) deduct Euro 100,000 per act of diving. with these solutions, the players and clubs take responsibility, and not the poor referee.

after each game, have the dives reviewed
one match ban for a dive that resulted in a free kick three match ban for a dive that resulted in a penalty being awarded, or a player sent off that goes for play acting too, so is fabregas grabs his face and rolls around on the ground, he gets an automatic three match ban Rating :
