God bless them both! They are SNOOKER legends! It's great that they still manage to succeed among so many young talents. Good for them, I really appreciate their efforts and talent, as they are two of the most gifted players in the history of Snooker! Still something happens, something prevents them from reaching the top and maybe this something is lack of focus after so many years of glory. They had it all! I'm very sorry for Davis who lost to Robertson, but there still are chances for Hendry.

That third frame was a turning point for Davis. He did all the hard work and I think at 2-2 it's a different game altogether.
He shouldn't retire. alright he's never goning to number one but he's still got stuff in the basement

It's an amazing testament that after decades, the presence of these two at the televised stages of a tournament is more of a breath of fresh air than the reverse.

I completely agree with you, Davis and Hendry are the best players in the game when you look at their achievements, but I would mention Alex Higgins, Jimmy White and Ronnie O´Sullivan as the greatest sportsmen of snooker, simply because they were and are the favourite player of the majority of the fans. Hendry and Davis might technically and mentally be the best players of all times, but when it comes to emotion or identification, they cannot be compared to really popular players like O´Sullivan or White. A shame, maybe, that they never got the attention they deserve, but thats the way sport works in general

Thank you for your insight. And I am sure you will agree therefore that among their peers, Hendry and Davis are men apart too. Of course couch potatoes and punters down the down pub identify with White, Higgins and O'Sulluvan, thats the nature of the beast. It doesn't make them great, just becaus they fill a void in impotent peoples lives. Its bums on seats thats all, quite literally, I'm afraid. I've met them all and granted Jimmy White is fine when straight, but trust me the other two are scumbags.

That's the most ridiculous comment I think I have ever read, am truly amazed at such stupidity. Hendry and Davis are were great snooker players of their day, some would argue that they still are, and I wouldnt offer any argument at all to that. But thats not important here, there's far too many mitigating circumstances which play a part in all of this. Davis, to me, is the most influential player the game as ever seen, all departments of his game were practically faultess, his manner, behaviour and ettiquette around the table were, and are, admirable. Hendry took all that Davis had and built on that, wheres other players didn't, or couldn't. This doesnt make them men apart in any way, it simply makes them the most consistant at what they were doing at that time. I won't elaborate on the rest of the comment regarding ' just because they fill a void ''... I find it impossible to stoop to that level of ignorance and arrogance, but then again, clearly we all find our own level. The most important thing to be learned from this lunatics comment is his immature impression that simply because somebody excels at a particulary sport, then it automatically makes them good people, which we all know, isn't true.

The amazing thing about Snooker People there mentality shows a consistent similarity as if programmed. “We” are not ever able to see the other side of the coin! Your attitude is: If I don’t know, there is no answer.

All snooker players suffer as well from “Snooker Amnesia” I’ve always known that, but just forgot; especially when discussing a new snooker tip or a branch of snooker technique that is so obvious afterwards. Often the retort comes some time after the remark was made.

All Top players have come up through the Joe Davis ranks, as there never has been an alternative way to learn. Many top players would honestly tell the student how’s its done but they don’t know themselves, as amazingly players only know the “Watch Me” and I’ll show you again method!

It will surprise you lads but snooker players don’t know what they are doing right or doing wrong. The great Joe Davis SHOWED the worlds how to break build but didn’t say (with words) HOW to break build. This left snooker coaches speechless since the thirties.

Ronnie O Sullivan is very honest (Ronnie Book) I don’t know myself some time how I do it, when queried over coaching his friend Ronnie Wood the entertainer.

Many players when learning have had a bit of luck and join a club with many good and helpful players to copy from. While other equally keen students might never get help or encouragement.
