James Martin issues rare health update as he dons surprising item for first time on TV

On Monday's episode of Lorraine, James Martin combatted health woes and stylistic firsts as he shared a health update while sporting a surprise item for the first time on TV.

The revered TV chef, 51, conversed with Scots star Lorraine about his successful upcoming tour, an opportunity that had first knocked on his door seven years prior. The discussion took a personal turn when Lorraine, 64, expressed her concern over Martin's current wellbeing, quizzing: "Things are good? Everything is good right now?".

Taking the question head-on, Martin reassured: "Yes, the stitches have fallen out, as you know, the last time you were on, I was in the middle of operations. As we speak, the stitches have fallen out of my body at the moment and that's all clear, onwards and upwards!"

A relieved Lorraine replied: "I'm really pleased, it's great great news!".

The last year had seen Martin reveal a skin cancer diagnosis on his face, leading to multiple surgeries. He had remarked previously: "Since then it has returned on several occasions and I have to have regular treatments."

Sharing further insights into his health battle, Martin conveyed thanks for his lengthy TV journey at his show in Liverpool last November, reports the Mirror.

He said: "On a personal note, I just wanted to say thank you for 30 years of television.

"For me personally, I've been through a lot of s**t with cancer but I'm getting sorted at the end of next month. I will be back fighting at the end of February but I'm going on a little bit of a break to get that sorted. I just wanted to say thank you for all your support and all your messages."

Meanwhile, during Monday's episode of Lorraine, James unveiled a television first as he received a compliment on his hat from the Glasgow-born star. The television chef remarked with humour: "This is the first time I've worn a hat on TV, [the] guys there at the back said wear it! " to which Lorraine responded by saying: "I'm loving the hat!"

Regarding his forthcoming tour, James revealed: "People always ask me, what the tour is all about and I don't quite know myself even after four tours! It's a bit of everything... if you think it's a Saturday morning show it's not!

"It's a bit of comedy, music, fast paced, it's basically a dish every eight minutes, technically, sometimes even every six minutes! Storytelling in it as well, it just works on a big stage. For some reason, I don't know why, the guys at Live Nation approached me seven years ago and said we'd love to take this on a tour."
